How to own a “fraction” of an Andy Warhol through Blockchain

Asset tokenization and fractional ownership entered the art market. Emerging platforms enable private investors, to buy frictions of an art piece, just like stock market investors buy shares of a company. This is done through asset tokenization, create tokens for parts of an asset, that can be traded on an exchange. Distributing ownership among many small investors has also been proven to increase the price of an Art piece.

The first tokenization was conducted about one year ago, when Maecenas (Read the previous blog on how Maecenas can disrupt the art world) sold a 31,5% stake in Andy Warhol’s “14 Small Electric Shares” from 1980. The price
paidwere $1.7m. The trading of stakes is possible via Bitcoin,
Ethereum, Maecenas’s proprietary currency “ART”.
